The Fundamentals of World-Class Tutoring

The Fundamentals of World-Class Tutoring

Written with by Oliver Tenerife

What are the fundamentals of exceptional tutoring? Here at Octotutor.com we brainstorm this question on nearly a daily basis – it is embedded into our organizational culture. To kick off the Octotutor blog, I wanted to provide a few of our key organizational values to give our customers a better idea of how we operate.

1. Follow the Golden Rule

We’ve all been there before – a huge essay is due –couldn’t study for a final exam – your team members bailed on you. No student wants to be in a situation where they are doomed for failure with nowhere to turn.

We understand the stresses of academic life and want to make it easier for students to succeed. In order to achieve this goal, we simple follow the golden rule of “Regard your neighbor’s gain as your own gain, and your neighbor’s loss as your own loss”. I know if I were in a tough situation, I would want to have a reliable tutor from whom I could seek guidance. If our students fail, then we fail. We stand by this principle and provide students with an unconditional refund if our service does not help them achieve better grades.

2. Create Truly Awesome Tutoring Materials

So many tutoring sites today provide nothing but rehashed garbage. Even many of the most popular tutoring sites rely on user-generated submissions that lack quality and reliability – and they usually charge a very high premium to boot.

A member of the Octotutor team has verified every article, essay, study guide, textbook solution, and answer sheet on the website.  We have a strict 15 point checklist to scrutinize every piece of material that gets posted in the premium member database. Furthermore, we keep review and update the material on a regular basis to ensure that it is always current. We believe quality is much more important than quantity when it comes to academic tutoring.

3. Be Responsive, Be Quick, Be Courteous

We believe that human beings should interact with other human beings, not automated systems. A dedicated staff of tutors is available to provide real responses to inquiries. Whether it’s a simple technical issue or a request for additional help on an assignment, we are ready and willing to help.

These are just a few of the principles we follow to deliver exceptional tutoring. We hope you see these traits shine through as you take advantage of this service.

  • Very well said. This is a set of principles that should be followed by any organization with a mission geared towards helping students.
